Shamim Iftekhar

Shamim is responsible for coordinating GTS’ projects in Bangladesh which includes quantitative and qualitative research initiatives, capacity-strengthening activities, and community dialogue. He works closely with partner organisations, sectors, and response coordination structures to support and advocate for the collection and use of perception data.

He brings 18 years of communications, CwC and community engagement experience working with a wide range of development and humanitarian organizations. Prior to joining GTS, he was the Representative in Bangladesh for Fondation Hirondelle. He has been working in humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar since his joining at BRAC in December 2017. As Lead of BRAC C4D he the largest community mobilization network with 1000 Rohingya refugees. He also developed and managed a large community engagement network with 250 Rohingya religious leaders. He was an elected member of CwC Strategic Advisory Group. Previously, he worked for Oxfam, UNDP, Save the Children and Transparency International in communications and advocacy-related positions.

Shamim earned his degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka. He received a number of overseas and in-country trainings on research, communication and advocacy
