Community concerns about Nepal quake response compounded by lack of information

Nick van Praag • 17 October 2015

As Nepal pursues the long, slow recovery from the April earthquake, the latest survey of communities across the 14 worst hit districts indicates that people see progress on some of the key elements of the response. Overall, however, perceptions remain negative, notably on whether their needs are met and the role of the government. What jumps out of the data is the need to step up efforts to communicate with the public about what they can expect - and when. As in so many humanitarian disasters, the provision of timely information would go a long way to lift the fog that continues to hang over the earthquake response.
